The specialty of the Fannie Rose Candy Shop stems back to a road trip in the late 1980s when owner Pat Garofalo discovered mouth-watering fudge, sold at the creamery in Maiden Rock, Wisconsin, where it was made from scratch. Each time the Garofalo family took that familiar drive, they would purchase a package of fudge. The depth of flavor remained imprinted in their memories, and in the 21st century, Pat Garofalo decided that the fudge she so fondly remembered would be the signature of the Fannie Rose Candy Shop.
The search began with a trip to that old creamery…only to find that the shop had closed and no one knew where the lovely lady had gone who had made the fudge all those years ago. But Pat was determined.
After nine months of phone calls and visits to Maiden Rock, Pat was finally successful in tracking down the former creamery proprietor and she was victorious when they came to an agreement about sharing the recipe. Today, Pat follows the meticulous formula with ingredients that need constant attention. It is the feature of the shop, it’s that delicious.
If you love fudge, if you’ve had fudge that’s only so-so, or if you’ve sworn to never eat fudge, give this treat a try! The handmade four-chocolate mixture is smooth, rich, creamy, and Pat stands ready to make a believer out of you.
